I'm a software developer. Hiking, quiet places and trips with friends made me love travel, and this site is how I explore a new destination: by reading everything I can about it, working through the records, and writing it up.
What I do here
- The odds. I work out the aurora odds on this site myself, from public records: hourly airport weather reports and the geomagnetic Kp index. How the odds are worked out explains the method and its limits.
- The prices and tours. I check operators' published terms and the booking listings on the date each page shows, and re-check them before each season.
- The sources. Every page lists where its facts come from. If I can't find a source for a claim, it doesn't go on the page.
What I haven't done
I haven't taken the tours on this site or stood under the aurora in Alaska or Iceland yet. The pages say so where it matters, and nothing here is written as if I had. When I do go, the photos and notes will go on the site, marked as mine.
